Exporting security cameras as a timelapse using Wisenet Wave

Today we’re going to be talking about one of my favorite features of my security camera VMS system– Wisenet Wave– the “Rapid Review” export. That’s just a fancy way of saying Timelapse.

A few weeks ago, I put up a fence between my neighbor’s house and mine. My camera watched as it was put up, and once done, BAM. Export a timelapse. Here’s how it’s done.

Open up your Wisenet Wave client, log into your server and pull up the camera you’d like to take a timelapse of. Like this:

Select an area of time from the timeline that you’d like to take a timelapse of. I’ll take about a day here.

Right click on that blue part and click Export Video…

Now, you’ll still have to do the normal export stuff. Select the directory, give your file a name, and select the file type, but in the middle you should be able to select an option for “Rapid Review”

Click that on, and it’ll open up a few timelapse options. It’ll tell you how long the initial video is, and ask you how long you want the exported video to be, and at what speed you’d like it to play back at. As you change one, the other will change as well.

In my example here, if I set a speed of 25x for the timelapse, each frame would be just under 1 second and the overall video would be an hour long. Sorry, but that’s a bit too long to sit through. I’ll grab the slider and move it move to the right….

Now to get to a 10 minute video, it plays back at 154x speed. Pretty simple to use, and the video comes out just as you’d expect.

The most common request I’ve had for timelapses had been from the construction industry. Companies wanted to setup a security camera to keep an eye on their equipment, but after the job was done wanted to go back and export a timelapse from the footage. Most systems don’t have a feature for that, but with Wave, one camera and a 1TB HDD worked perfectly.

Here’s the warning: It only works on the media format exports. The .exe and .nov formats don’t support Rapid Review.  Now go have fun making timelapses!
