New Homeowners: How to secure and protect your investment
Making sure of its safety is the top priority after you bought a new home. Otherwise, you will have no idea about some unexpected incidents, like burglary, invasion, or something disappeared.
To give your family a completely safe and comfortable living environment, you should set up a security system before your whole family moves to a new place.
How I use Wyze equipment to secure my new home
I pick up Wyze equipment as my smart partner at home because of its simple design. Wyze equipment is easy to install and controllable from your smartphone through the mobile app.
You’ll receive alerts whenever suspicious activity is detected. They can be configured for the motion sensor, door sensors, camera or all of the above.
In this article, we’re going to go over each of these in more detail. I’ll show you how I use them in my home, so that you can use them more effectively in yours. Let’s take a look.
Motion sensors
Motion sensors are devices made to detect people’s or pet’s activities. You can use them indoors or outdoors to enhance your home protection. Whenever an indoor sensor is triggered, a signal is sent to your security system’s control panel or base station, and then you will be notified.
Wyze Sensor piggybacks off the wifi connection from Wyze Cam, so setup is extra simple. Insert the included bridge into the back of a Wyze Cam, add a sensor in your Wyze app, activate the sensor, and it’s ready to go. One Bridge can support up to 100 Wyze sensors and has a signal range that will work throughout most US homes.
By the Wyze sensor’s detecting capacity, you can not only get the information that something triggered the camera, but also see what exactly triggered it. You can set any (or all) of your Wyze Cams to record a video when motion is detected.

Cameras
While the camera is not a novel technology anymore, the trick these days it to make them as user friendly and feature rich as possible.
You can check on your home anytime with the Wyze app’s live stream. Even when you’re away, the camera will allow you to keep an eye on your loved ones and belongings.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t go over at least SOME of the technical specifications of the camera, like the 2.8mm focal length, 110º wide-angle lens, 1/2.9″ CMOS sensor, and 1920×1080 (1080p) full HD.
Any information will be helpful to police in the event of an emergency like a break-in, even if the view only captures the back side of the suspect. This could provide clues to police which will help narrow down suspects.
The Wyze Cams “enhanced night vision” delivers clarity up to 30 feet away, even in total darkness. Most illegal intrusions were conducted in the dark.
The innovative 3-axis design allows your Wyze Cam to point in any direction. Use the included metal plate and adhesive tape with your camera’s magnetic base to mount it anywhere – no screws required.
Crimes seem to always happen in remote or hidden areas. Wyze’s magnetic deployment design can allow for easy coverage of those areas.
If you need to talk to someone on the other end of the camera, use the built-in speaker and microphone to listen and speak to your loved ones, furry friends, or visitors. Most burglars will flee if you speak through the speakers and inform them that the police have been called.

Door open/close sensors
Do you remember if you closed the garage door when you left this morning? Oof. Now you really aren’t sure, are you? Whoops!
Now you’re stuck wondering, but you could call Wyze for help. Get notified when you leave something open, or just open the app and see the current state of each door in your home.
You don’t have to get a notification every time something opens or closes. Set Wyze Sense only to send you a notification when something is open longer than it should be.
If you feel the camera is not private, a tiny Wyze sensor could replace it in some functions. With a compact design and a light price tag, Wyze Sense is built to spark your creativity. Place contact sensors on liquor cabinets, safes, trash cans, cookie jars, and anything else that twists, turns, opens or closes. Motion sensors are great for bedrooms, bathrooms, or anywhere you don’t want to put a Wyze Cam.
Wyze will not disturb you when you’re busy. Sometimes you have to engage in a meeting that is not allowed to check your cellphone. So Wyze can not only keep the current status but a history of your sensors right in the Wyze app. It can record and store the details of open/close, and motion events for 14-days. So you can see precisely when a sensor was triggered and how long it takes, even if you’ve disabled push notifications.

Other cost-effective ways to secure your new home
Can’t afford the Wyze cam right now? I’ve still got a couple of approaches that don’t cost too much.
1. Pretend you’re at home when you’re not
When you leave for work or appointments or go on vacation, you can create a “someone’s at home” look using timers on lights and TVs. No surprise, there are lots of gadgets available. Fake TV, for instance, simulates the flickering glow of a television, and from outside, it appears that someone is watching TV.
2. Eliminate hiding spots
If your hedge is too tall, bushy, or not well spaced, you’re providing a nice hiding spot for a potential burglar. Trim and prune plantings.
3. Hold regular training at home
Make home security a habit, with every member of the household—including kids—agreeing to a routine that should include such simple rules as:
* Use door and window locks. It costs nothing and takes little energy. Make it a habit to lock every door and window when leaving, after entering, and before bedtime.
* Do not open the door to uninvited or unwelcome visitors. Close and lock the garage door.
* Secure your home even if you’re doing work around the house and yard.
